Blast Can't Detonate

The Memphis Blast high powered offense was grounded against the Kings on Saturday night. The Blast came in averaging 25 point per contest but struggled to sustain drives against the aggressive Kings defense. The home team was only able to muster a few big plays but nothing consistent against a defensive secondary that has been stingy all season.

The first half was controlled by the Kings combination of downhill running and timely passing from QB Jahmad Goff. It was the run threat that set up the first score f the night, a 30 yards strike to WR Jamiah Sorapuru, off playaction. The Blast would pickup field goals both before and after halftime to tie the score at 6 when the fireworks started.

Offensively the Kings churned out 200+ rushing yards led by RB Keith Brown and his 142 yards. Immediately after the game tying Blast FG, Brown tore up the middle of the field for a 76 yard TD, his first of the season. With the momentum clearly on their side the Kings added a backbreaking 56 yard TD when Goff connected with WR Denzel Ladner on a Hail Mary throw that seemed to hang in the air forever.

The Blast were able to add a 4th quarter TD but could not put significant pressure on the Kings, having no answer for the rushing attack. The Kings used Brown and Williams to hammer the defense in the second half and escape with the best win of the season. These two teams are expected to battle for the Midsouth division crown, the Blast will need to find away to keep pace with the division leaders to set up a potential division championship game on July 25 when the visit the fast track in New Orleans.
